Our Story
A practice built on
unhurried attention
Wangi began with a straightforward observation: most people drawn to Melaka's heritage quarter had very little help finding a residence within it. Online listings were sparse, building histories were absent, and the process of establishing a tenancy in an older property required local knowledge that most new arrivals simply did not have.
We started by spending time on foot — walking Jalan Hang Jebat and the lanes off Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, speaking to building owners, learning which upper floors had been sensitively restored and which had not. That early work became the foundation of how we operate today.
The name Wangi is a Malay word meaning fragrant. It reflects the kind of quality we look for in a residence: something pleasant that is present without announcing itself. A building with good bones, good light, and a quiet sense of its own character.
Our Mission
Matching people to
places that suit them
Our work is, at its core, about fit. Not every heritage building suits every person, and we take that seriously. Before we recommend any residence, a member of our small team visits in person, noting the quality of natural light at different times of day, the condition of shared areas, the practical realities of an older building, and the general character of the street.
We present only a short list of properties that genuinely match each client's brief. Our goal is not volume — it is to find the right place and to make the process of securing it straightforward and well-documented.
Heritage tenancy in Malaysia requires care around owner verification, deposit protection, and the documentation of existing building features. We bring that care to every engagement, regardless of budget.

How We Work
The standards we
hold ourselves to
Personal Site Visits
Every property we recommend has been visited in person by a member of our team before we present it. We do not pass on listings we have not seen ourselves.
Owner Verification
We confirm title and ownership before any lease discussion proceeds. In Melaka's heritage quarter, building ownership can be complex, and we take care to establish it clearly.
Lease Transparency
We read every lease agreement before our clients sign. We flag provisions that need attention and explain their practical implications in plain terms.
Data Privacy
Client information is held in confidence and used only in connection with the search we are conducting on their behalf. We do not share or sell client data.
Heritage Compliance
We are familiar with the conservation guidelines applicable to Melaka's UNESCO-listed core and ensure that any residence we present is being let in a manner consistent with its heritage status.
Client Confidence
We do not receive referral fees from landlords or developers. Our fee is paid by the client, which means our recommendation is always made in their interest alone.
Heritage Residence Expertise
Living within Melaka's
historic fabric
Melaka holds a rare quality among Malaysian cities. The streets of Bandar Hilir and the UNESCO World Heritage Site core have maintained their spatial character through decades of tourism and development pressure. Restored Peranakan shophouses still line Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock. The Melaka River corridor carries a continuous residential character that stretches from the old port to the upper reaches of the heritage quarter.
Wangi works within this specific geography. Our knowledge of individual buildings, their owners, their conservation histories, and their practical qualities has been built through years of on-foot research. When we present a residence to a client, we can speak to its particular character with genuine familiarity — not from a listing description, but from having stood in it ourselves and considered whether it suits the person we are advising.
